Plan and epic date night in the Lower Mainland during COVID

April 27, 2021
Featured  ·  Photography  ·  Wedding

Lets get real for a minute here… we’re all struggling HAARD with covid! All the new restrictions being thrown at us all the time. Not knowing how long they’ll last. Not being able to go out as we would normally.

No matter your lifestyle and what your life looks like, we all need a freaking pick me up! Today, I’m focusing on something that my husband and I need to do more of and thats DATE NIGHTS! The restrictions in the Fraser Valley right now are tough and I just want to have a night with my man while my kids enjoy a sleepover. It really shouldn’t be too much to ask for but apparently it is… thank you COVID.

I’ve been looking for great ideas on how we can create our own date nights and I wanted to share them with you! Wherever you live, downtown Vancouver, up in Whistler or out in the Fraser Valley like I do, there are so many ideas!

  1. GET TAKE OUT AND MAKE IT A SUNSET PICNIC

Restaurants all over the lower mainland are closed for in house dining but we can still support each other! Take out for date night my friend, it’s always a win.

Order your favorite dish, grab a blanket, some tunes (some drinks because lets face it, its always a nice touch) and go find somewhere beautiful to watch the sun set together while chatting about anything other than covid! If you need some suggestions on where in Vancouver or the Fraser Valley you can go, hit me up and I’ll send you somewhere beautiful!

2. MAKE DINNER AND DESERT TOGETHER

You like how I added desert into the mix? Pinterest a new dish or find a recipe you’ve been wanting to try for a while, shop the day before, pour a glass of wine, put on some music and make something tasty.

If you have kids, add them into date night (sans wine but they can have apple juice in a wine glass). My kids love helping make dinner, so prep everything ahead of time to keep things fun and simple, mix a little, dance a little and then eat it all.

3. A WALK IN THE PARK

Agreed, not everything needs to involves food so wait for a sunny evening and go for a walk.

If you have the time, google a new park that you’d like to walk through and hold hands the whole way while talking about your day and plans for the summer. Campbell Valley Park in Langley is beautiful, Stanley Park if you’re in Vancouver and Cheam Wetlands if you’re out near Chilliwack.

If time is of the essence and life is a rush, go anywhere from your front door. Walk the neighbourhood and just breathe the fresh air and take a moment to enjoy the calm. We are in the suburbs of Abbotsford and do this all the time.

4. GAMES NIGHT

This is something you can do together or with kids, sober or… not? lol

Crib, monopoly, poker etc. It’s not something we do very often so its going to be something different if not what your ideal date night would like like pre-covid. But my friend, life’s a little different right now and we are all just rolling with it.

5. SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST…

Book a couples photo session with me. No this is not just a salesy pitch I’m being serious, they are such an amazing way to put on something you feel amazing in and spend a quality evening together. The sole focus is to love each other, feel all the feels and just switch off from reality for a little while and just embrace the bond that you have.

Not only do you get an incredible evening together to reconnect, bond and breath each other in BUT you get some incredible new photos to frame on your wall <3

Getting ready photos? They’re not just makeup to Getting ready photos? They’re not just makeup touch-ups and dress zips.
They’re the quiet glances, deep breaths, and little moments that mark the shift from “fiancé” to “bride.”

You might wonder—is it really worth capturing these parts of the day?
Here’s my honest take:

PROS:
→ It’s a slow, gentle start to a big day
→ Emotions are fresh and real
→ You’re surrounded by your people—your closest circle
→ The details shine (rings, perfume, florals, heirlooms)

CONS:
→ Honestly? There aren’t many.

If we plan your timeline with intention, this part becomes one of the most meaningful chapters of the day.

Golden hour just knows how to show up. Sam brought Golden hour just knows how to show up.
Sam brought her calm energy to this session—and watching her with her little one was such a reminder of how much love lives in the in-between moments.

The way she snuggles her babe, the way she laughs—it’s the kind of stuff you’ll never regret capturing.
Motherhood doesn’t slow down, but you can absolutely hit pause like this.
Not every champagne pop goes to plan… and that’s okay 😅

This groom gave it everything—but when the bottle didn’t spray, he improvised (by throwing it out of the bottle lol and honestly, I’m not mad about it. It was hilarious!

Want the spray and the sparkle on your wedding day?

Here’s your 3-step champagne pop guide for wedding-day magic:
1	Chill your bottle beforehand (this builds pressure for a good spray).
2	Loosen the cage and hold the bottle at a 45° angle, away from faces.
3	Once the cork pops, quickly place your thumb over the opening and give it a gentle shake—just like a garden hose. Instant celebration!

Whether it’s picture-perfect or pure chaos, these are the moments you’ll be laughing about for years.
There’s something so timeless about a woman in h There’s something so timeless about a woman in her wedding gown—before the music plays, before the guests arrive, before the day officially begins.

It’s that quiet space where emotions stir, anticipation builds, and the beauty of this chapter really sinks in.

This bridal session was all of that and more—soft light, still air, and the reminder that being fully present in your day is what makes it unforgettable.

Don’t rush these moments. Let’s give you the space to take it all in, and remember how it felt.
