Capturing the Beauty of Maternity: A Vancouver and Fraser Valley Guide

October 11, 2023
Family  ·  Lifestyle  ·  Photography

Dear momma to be,

These are moments to cherish. The ones of wonder and amazement when your bean is growing into a little being in your tummy. The butterflies of their first movement, to tummy rolls and mini hickups will never, ever feel the same again once they’re in your arms.

This is the time to capture the beauty of your pregnancy through an unforgettable way of freezing the moments, big and small to look back on and for your child to one day look back on. Whether its your first baby or an addition to your growing family, this moment in your life is a treasure worth preserving. In the Vancouver area including the Fraser Valley, we have the perfect canvas to create these lifetime moments for you. Read along with this guide on how we can plan the perfect maternity session with me as your side kick capturing these moments.

Close your eyes and let yourself dream for a moment. Dream of what you love and the life you plan to explore with your little human. Are you going to adventure into the mountains, swim in the ocean or play in the fields. Where your mind wanders will help you imagine your ideal setting – whether it’s under the gentle rustle of leaves in a serene park or bathed in the warm golden hues of a sunset. As your creative sidekick, I have countless locations to match your vision. The Vancouver area including the Fraser Valley options are limitless for beautiful areas for us to explore.

Now, let’s talk timing. As an experienced photographer, I recommend scheduling your session between 28 to 32 weeks into your pregnancy. This is the sweet spot when your baby bump is beautifully rounded, and you’re still feeling comfortably active. However, the rhythm of your pregnancy is uniquely yours, so trust your instincts and how you’re feeling. We’ll be in contact throughout the planning process and we will figure out the perfect timing for you because more than just a beautiful photo, you need to be able to enjoy and embrace the experience.

While we will work together to find the perfect setting for your vision, finding the right outfits is an essential part of the process because the right and wrong outfit choices (colours, patterns and combinations) can change the outcome of the vision.

Embrace your changing body and pick clothing that makes you feel confident and radiant. flowy dresses, form-fitting gowns, or even casual wear can beautifully accentuate your pregnancy glow. Consider coordinating outfits with your partner or little ones, creating a harmonious visual narrative of your growing family’s love. I have some dresses in my client wardrobe so please ask for photos, I have some stunning choices!

At this point, I always suggest you just take a breath and relax! We’ve figured out all the big things and I need a relaxed and vibrant momma in front of my camera. Take some time before getting ready to relax and enjoy the build up to your photoshoot. This is a time of celebration and you deserve to enjoy every second of it. Trust in everything we’ve got planned and now embrace the evening with me. Aim to arrive a little early (traffic can add so much unnecessary stress) so get there a little early, explore the space or take a great book and kick your feet up so your mind can dream of everything life has in store for your family. If there’s anything that will create a genuine smile in your session is your imagination of the future and, Momma, I need you relaxed for that to happen <3

Once the sun has set on your maternity photoshoot, you’ll be left with not only a treasure trove of images that beautifully encapsulate the excitement and anticipation of this precious chapter in your life you’ll be left with an evening of celebrating what life is in THIS moment for you and your family. You’ll have lived in THIS moment for the evening instead of planning the countless things for the future that we all do as expectant mothers. We’ve now created this time capsule of your glowing bump, the little moments that will forever be those keepsakes for your family that will serve as a reminder of your incredible journey into motherhood.

So momma, this is your moment to capture this, here and now before life changes forever for you. Time disappears on us and these are moments we can never get back.

With love and anticipation, your experienced side kick and fellow momma who’s been where you are now,

Kate

Elopements strip everything back to what matters most: the two of you. No pressure, no packed timeline—just space to be present, breathe it all in, and feel every moment unfold naturally.

It’s less about centrepieces and seating charts, and more about connection. About choosing a location that speaks to you, saying your vows with wind in your hair, and letting the day flow the way you want it to.
