How to Make the Most of Your Branding Session

January 31, 2021
Featured  ·  Uncategorized

Ahhhh I’m sooo excited you’re here, its going to be amazing!

I’m here for you every step of the way, if you have any questions along the way feel free to email me anytime.

This guide is going to walk you through the best ways to make the most of your branding session and give you an idea on what to expect throughout the process.

Follow along and here are my pro tips on how we can NAIL your branding session with me and get some incredible content for connecting with your ideal clients!

You’ve likely heard me say it already but it’s so important that I’m going to say it again…

YOU are your sets you brand apart. Your photos need to tell your story.

WHO you are, WHAT you do and WHY you do it.

I want to splash your personality all over your brand and have everyone fall in love with the person behind the business. We’ll capture your laughter, your passion for what you do and you creating what you do for your business. So let’s dive in to how you can maximize our time together!!

Consider creating a Pinterest board to share with me

Here you can create a concept for you photo session. This can include outfit inspo, creative concepts that capture your vibe, photos that you emotionally connect to etc. Anything that you connect with. This will give me a great insight into you, your brand and what you’d like to capture.

If you have any instagram accounts you love feel free to let me know who they are and I’ll do a little scouting before hand for ideas.

Make it Personal

We want your clients to fall in love with you and your brand as soon as they see you media pages. To see the person behind the product. So lets choose a place that you and your business connect to. This could be your home, office, salon etc your location is the heart of your business and this is where you’ll feel most comfortable.

Of course, if you would like suggestions on where to go I’m here to help. Depending on where you’d like to do you photoshoot, there are some amazing locations I can recommend throughout the Fraser Valley. Every town has a great space we can use. I’m based out of Abbotsford but I often do sessions in Langley, Maple Ridge and down to Vancouver. The options are endless.

Once we’ve chosen the location we will nail down the best time that works for us both and with the lighting.

Create a “must have” shot list

If you have some specific photos you’d like captured, create a photo board or shot list. Make it short and sweet though. I will ensure that we capture these “must have” photos for you but I always want our session to have a natural flow to it so keeping things simple is the best way of keeping you relaxed to allow your personality to shine through.

Think about behind the scenes things that create  your business, daily tasks and such as well as what the public would typically see. Clients love seeing into the behind the scenes of a business.

Choosing your outfits

If you plan your outfits carefully, we can have multiple super fast changes that will help expand your gallery without being time consuming.

My biggest suggestion is to choose a great “base outfit” this could be a pair of jeans or pants that you love with a body suit perhaps. This can then be easily paired with multiple top layers such as blazers, cardigans, t-shirts, blouses, sweaters etc. These are all things that can quickly be switched out and create a very full gallery that can be used multiple times.

Shoes! Never forget the power of shoes, sandals, bare feet (depending on your location) These can quickly be switched out to suite your top.

Accessories: hats scarves etc. Great way to switch up the outfit and a bonus is if you don’t know what to do with your hands, you’ll have something to play with.

Colours: I recommend sticking with neutral or earth tones. Think: greys, whites, blacks, browns, burgundy, mustard, dark navy blue, or dark green. Stay away from anything florescent or overly bright that might clash with the background or overpower the image

Patterns: Avoid big, loud, chunky, crazy patterns. The smaller or more subtle, the better! If the pattern is too prominent, it will distract from your faces. Also, be sure to iron your clothes before so there’s not huge wrinkles distracting from your faces either!

Hair: Down and loose is always a win! By not having it tucked away we can create so much movement with it and this is a stunning thing for us to capture.

Makeup: We want you to look like you for these photos. If you choose to get your makeup done, personally I love lashes for photos, they really make your eyes pop. Skimp on the highlighter, it can reflect the light hitting your face and wash you out in photos.

If you’re unsure of how to do your hair and makeup or would prefer to hire someone who’s magic with a brush, I have an exclusive discount with Rose Quartz Beauty for these branding sessions. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll get you in touch with Shayla. She’s amazing!

When it comes to your photo session don’t worry about feeling “awkward” in front of the camera. We all do but it’s my job to take those worries away on the day of and keep you relaxed. We’ll do stupid crap, tell funny stories and genuinely have a blast creating your ideal branding sesh that it’ll fly by in the blink of an eye and we’ll have captured you beautifully.

I honestly CAN’T FREAKING WAIT!!! It’s going to be amazing!!

If you have any questions at all about things or even just want a second eye on your outfit selection just let me know 🙂 I’m here for you!

Getting ready photos? They’re not just makeup to Getting ready photos? They’re not just makeup touch-ups and dress zips.
They’re the quiet glances, deep breaths, and little moments that mark the shift from “fiancé” to “bride.”

You might wonder—is it really worth capturing these parts of the day?
Here’s my honest take:

PROS:
→ It’s a slow, gentle start to a big day
→ Emotions are fresh and real
→ You’re surrounded by your people—your closest circle
→ The details shine (rings, perfume, florals, heirlooms)

CONS:
→ Honestly? There aren’t many.

If we plan your timeline with intention, this part becomes one of the most meaningful chapters of the day.

Golden hour just knows how to show up. Sam brought Golden hour just knows how to show up.
Sam brought her calm energy to this session—and watching her with her little one was such a reminder of how much love lives in the in-between moments.

The way she snuggles her babe, the way she laughs—it’s the kind of stuff you’ll never regret capturing.
Motherhood doesn’t slow down, but you can absolutely hit pause like this.
Not every champagne pop goes to plan… and that’s okay 😅

This groom gave it everything—but when the bottle didn’t spray, he improvised (by throwing it out of the bottle lol and honestly, I’m not mad about it. It was hilarious!

Want the spray and the sparkle on your wedding day?

Here’s your 3-step champagne pop guide for wedding-day magic:
1	Chill your bottle beforehand (this builds pressure for a good spray).
2	Loosen the cage and hold the bottle at a 45° angle, away from faces.
3	Once the cork pops, quickly place your thumb over the opening and give it a gentle shake—just like a garden hose. Instant celebration!

Whether it’s picture-perfect or pure chaos, these are the moments you’ll be laughing about for years.
There’s something so timeless about a woman in h There’s something so timeless about a woman in her wedding gown—before the music plays, before the guests arrive, before the day officially begins.

It’s that quiet space where emotions stir, anticipation builds, and the beauty of this chapter really sinks in.

This bridal session was all of that and more—soft light, still air, and the reminder that being fully present in your day is what makes it unforgettable.

Don’t rush these moments. Let’s give you the space to take it all in, and remember how it felt.
